This June, Treehaus Studio is thrilled to be part of the MdW Summit —a gathering with 300 artist organizers from over 150 platforms and projects to build camaraderie, spark new collaborations, and make lasting friends in Detroit, Michigan!

Concertina Book Making Workshop: In this workshop, you’ll craft your own concertina book, guided by your personal narrative and creative vision. Together, we’ll delve into inspiring visual storytelling techniques and practical strategies, so you leave not just with a plan, but with the excitement and confidence to bring your book to life.

Partner: MdW (pronounced “Midway”) is an evolving regional coalition of artist-run projects, platforms, and spaces spanning across the Midwest. MdW is an expanding initiative that takes shape as “Convenings” which connect and strengthen communities within the cultural landscape, the “Atlas” which serves as an alternative publishing platform, and “Drifts” which explore and document regional hubs of creative energy. Artist-centered in its approach, MdW is a growing ecosystem of hyperlocal art scenes from across the Midwest working together to build lasting coalitions of purposeful, artist-led action.

Jessica Turtle

Jessica Turtle is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and Master Naturalist who founded Treehaus Studio. Her work spans two- and three-dimensional forms, with a focus on community engagement. She explores water as life, symbiotic and queer relationships in nature, and the effects of the Anthropocene. Through art and teaching, she urges us to value curiosity, beauty, and complexity in nature, inviting a deeper understanding of our place within it.

Building on this interdisciplinary ethos, Jessica earned a BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Wisconsin. She further developed her focus on object-based learning with the N.W. Harris Learning Collection in Chicago and at the Bell Museum in Minnesota, and completed the Wisconsin Master Naturalist Program.
