Experience the magic of Botanical Hammering! Also called Hapa Zomé, this enchanting Japanese art form lets you capture the vibrant colors and delicate details of flowers and leaves by gently pounding them onto paper or fabric. As you discover this beautiful process—originally known as Tataki Zomé—you'll watch nature's pigments transfer before your eyes, creating stunning, one-of-a-kind botanical prints. Let your creativity bloom as you connect with the natural world in a truly unforgettable way.
In this class, you’ll create a unique wall tapestry by using botanical hammering to imprint the vibrant shapes and colors of fresh herbs and native plants onto natural muslin. A variety of herbs will be provided and we will take a short walk to gather other plant materials from a nearby prairie, then use simple hammering techniques to transfer their beauty onto fabric, resulting in a one-of-a-kind botanical design.
