Field Notes: The Water's Edge

Pack your sketchbook bags; this mixed-media outdoor adventure combines exploration, detailed sketching, research, and writing. Field Notes encourages you to dedicate time to building a library of inspiration from outdoor exploration and observation. It serves as a platform to capture nature, document your surroundings, and engage in play and experimentation.

This summer’s Field Notes will explore the rich and varied ecosystems found along the water’s edge—including waterfalls, rivers, wetlands, and lakes.

Key components of the workshop include:

  • Creating your field notes toolbox

  • Overcoming anxiety and the need for perfection

  • Experimenting with different materials and approaches

  • Discovering the natural world that surrounds you

  • Developing and maintaining a creative habit

  • Finding or creating a community to support your practice

This course aims to push your boundaries, demystify, and strengthen your unique and beautiful perspective on the natural world hidden within urban spaces, and honing it into a skill that will serve you throughout your creative life.
