It serves as a platform to capture nature, document your surroundings, and engage in play and experimentation. 

This series of paddles is designed to introduce the basics of drawing and illustration, while also identifying native plants of the St. Croix River Valley. Each paddle is designed to build off of previous sessions, but it is not necessary to attend each paddle. The series introduces people to the basics of illustration, observational drawing, composition and plant identification. Whether you are experienced with drawing, or just getting started, each paddle is designed to accommodate all comfort levels. Drawing style and approach will focus on the history and contemporary approaches of botanical illustrations, providing guidance, insight and inspiration as a foundation for continued practice.

This summer’s Field Notes will explore the rich and varied ecosystems found along the water’s edge—including waterfalls, rivers, wetlands, and lakes.

“What the world needs now is love… and singing!” Immersed in water and woods, this gathering offers a space to let your creative songwriting and song-leading loose in a safe, guided setting. Each songwriting session includes tips, prompts, and relaxed space to write your own lyrics and music while paddling down the St. Croix River or wandering the woods. Together we’ll explore writing zipper songs, rounds, chants, call and response, and layered harmonies that are simple and effective for collective group singing.
