Nature Knolling

  • Treehaus Studio 1017 N Cascade Street Osceola United States (map)

Join us for Nature Knolling and experience the meditative art of nature collection and flat-lay photography.

Day One: We will spend the first day enjoying an observational hike at William O'Brien State Park in Marine on Saint Croix, Minnesota. During this hike, we will explore wooded, wetland, and prairie landscapes, allowing ourselves to relax and appreciate the intricacies of nature. We will learn to slow down, observe our surroundings, and discuss the proper etiquette for nature collection. As we hike, we will wander around to discover interesting items to add to our collections. The hike will be moderately challenging, and we will enjoy a picnic lunch.

Day Two: Back in the studio, we will use our collections to explore the meditative art of nature knolling and learn best practices for flat-lay photography from professional photographer and educator Keif Oss. This technique involves capturing images from a bird's-eye view of thoughtfully arranged objects that tell a story. For this portion of the workshop you are welcome to use your smartphone cameras.

You will select your favorite photograph, and we will print it and mail it to you to be framed and enjoyed for years to come.
